doing it scared

“When you make a conscious choice to stop worrying about all the ways you might screw up and focus instead only on what you can learn from the experience, you give yourself the power to simply try, regardless of what the outcome will be.”

Ruth Soukup, Do It Scared: Finding the Courage to Face Your Fears, Overcome Adversity, and Create a Life You Love

I will say that this is the hardest thing I’ve ever tasked myself with.

I won’t lie and say I read this book. I haven’t yet (though I plan to). However, this quote really stuck out to me because that is exactly what I’m going through in many aspects of my life.

At the beginning of this year on my vision board I wrote:

“do the thing that scares you.”

And, boy! I did not know that God was putting me on his strongest soldiers list. I have had a pretty rough year as far as change and going out on a limb and just doing things and taking chances. I moved out on my own. I started my dissertation journey—which as you can tell has been a pain in the ass. I also have been starting to look for jobs.

All these things are big changes. However, the biggest challenge that I’ve had to conquer is writing this blog and starting my podcast, lexycal (which comes out on August 17th so look out for that). Even saying that, I am putting an end to my looped planning stage and letting fear run what I do regarding putting myself out there.

Not to say that I have arrived at some form of enlightenment but if this was your sign to do the things that scare you: DO IT!

I have no idea where this podcast/youtube and this blog will go. Just like I have no idea where my career path will lead me or how my dissertation will turn out. Even if I have 2 listeners or 200, the Future Doctor Lexy has something to say. Thanks for being on this journey with me.
